Australian wine is highly sought after all over the world. It is exported to many different countries, but luckily as we live here you have access to some of the best wines available. In Australia, there are many wine growing regions, with some being quite well known, such as the Barossa, and Hunter Valleys, with others being more of a hidden gem, such as the Tamar Valley, and Margaret River wineries. At Bottle Stop we have an excellent collection for you to choose from, and there is enough available that you can get a taste of what most regions have to offer (we even have some international wines if you’d like to compare). If this is the first time you’re trying out an Australian wine, we’d suggest going for Pepperjack, as your entry into the Barossa Valley, Tamar Ridge (Tasmania), and Michelini Wines (Victoria). All of these will give you a good cross-section of all that Australian wine has to offer.
At Bottle Stop you can arrange to have these delivered to most addresses all over Australia, however, there are a few regions we cannot deliver to due to local laws and restrictions. You can enter your details and our online shop will let you know if we can deliver to your address. If you are having a casual get together or organising the drinks for a large party, Bottle Stop has got you sorted, you can find everything you need all in one convenient location. In addition to Australian wine, we also sell beer, brandy, gin, liqueurs, rum, vodka, and whiskey.
What does Australian wine taste like?
You can find most styles of wine being produced all over Australia. As we are a continent, you’ll have all the climates available that you’d find in any other region across the world. We have locations that are similar in climate to all the large winegrowers including France, Spain, and Italy. The most popular wine in Australia is the Chardonnay, however, you’ll find brilliant examples of Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and many other varieties. The majority of the wine on offer have their own unique take on the traditional growing and winemaking methods.
If you’re interested in trying a true Australian wine the Chardonnay is one of the best places to start. In the past, these were quite sweet on the palette, but as methods have improved so have the winemaking process and now these have been developed into truly world-class wines. You’ll find they are unique and each have a distinct terroir, you’ll uncover excellent flavours of oak and stone fruits, all the way to those packed with a citrus punch. You can get wines that offer a salty experience to young and funky. It’s doubtful that you won’t find a Chardonnay that appeals to you on some level.
Chardonnay is best produced in cool climates, so finding one that has been grown in the southern states and protected ranges will give you the best experience. From there you can branch out and compare it to wine grown in the warmer states up on the eastern coast. For a truly unique experience, you can try the Semillon wine that is mostly produced in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales. These wines are traditionally aged to about six years and are consistently making waves on the world's stage. You’ll find they have high acidity, with subtle flavours of citrus and apple, occasionally with notes of honey blossom. If you prefer you can cellar a good Semillon for several years and the flavour complexity will increase and develop into something truly special.
