Aberlour 12 Year Old Double Cask Matured is a richly rewarding Speyside single malt from one of Scotland's most respected distilleries. Established in 1879 on the banks of the River Spey, Aberlour draws its water from the renowned Birkenbush Springs and uses traditional copper pot stills with double distillation to craft a whisky of exceptional character. This expression is matured for a minimum of twelve years in a combination of American oak bourbon barrels and Spanish Oloroso sherry butts, resulting in a beautifully balanced dram with a warm, coppery amber hue.
On the nose, expect soft, rounded aromas of red apple, orange peel, and ripe orchard fruit, layered with rich chocolate, vanilla, and toasted nuts. The palate delivers a sumptuous balance of honeyed sweetness, caramel, and plump raisins alongside warming cinnamon and ginger spice, while the sherry cask influence adds layers of dried fruit and nutty complexity. The finish is medium to long, warm and lingering, with echoes of milk chocolate, sweet spice, and gentle oak. At 40% ABV, this is an approachable yet wonderfully complex whisky.
