Atlantico Reserva is a premium aged rum from the Dominican Republic, created by friends Brandon Lieb and Aleco Azqueta and later joined by singer Enrique Iglesias as a partner. Labelled Ron Añejado Solera, it is crafted by an independent blender rather than a single distillery.
What sets it apart is the blend. Rums distilled from fresh sugar cane juice and from molasses are aged separately in oak, then married together and rested further before finishing in a solera system, where younger rums are progressively blended with older reserves. This approach is unusual in Caribbean rum and gives Atlantico its distinctive character.
The nose offers vanilla ice cream, caramel and fruity boiled sweets, followed by apricot jam, maple and a touch of cinnamon on the palate, with a hint of spice and gentle oak through a warm, smooth finish. It is a rum made for sipping neat or over ice, and it also lifts a classic rum old fashioned.
