Caol Ila distillery is unusual in that it is held in equal esteem by blenders and single malt aficionados alike. Their latest offering, Caol Ila Moch, moch being 'new dawn' in Gallic, is meant to bring new light to this old company. Younger than other single malts from Caol Ila, it is straightforward, assertive, uncomplicated and unmistakable. Bottled from barrels chosen by taste rather than age, it consistently begins with a sweet thin body that quickly gives way to ashy peat, barrel char and touches of tobacco. Caol Ila Moch finishes with a rush of campfire smoke, menthol and black liquorice.
