Glengoyne 16 Year Old Mizunara Oak is a Highland single malt from a distillery renowned for its unhurried approach, using one of the slowest distillations in Scotland and unpeated barley to craft a spirit of remarkable smoothness and depth.
This expression spent its first decade maturing in first-fill sherry and refill casks before being transferred to rare Japanese Mizunara oak for a further six years. Prized and notoriously difficult to work with, Mizunara imparts a distinctive signature of sandalwood, soft vanilla and gentle incense that sets this whisky apart.
The result is a rich and layered malt, with soft toffee and warming spice giving way to coconut, crisp orchard fruit and a whisper of liquorice. The finish is long and floral, echoing cherry blossom on a spring breeze. Bottled at cask strength, it rewards slow sipping, with or without a few drops of water.
