Goslings has been blending rum in Bermuda since 1806, and the Family Reserve Old Rum sits at the top of the house range. This bottling takes that aged blend a step further, resting it for around three additional years in once-used rye whiskey barrels.
The nose is layered and savoury, mixing brown sugar and vanilla extract with black pepper, leather and a floral citrus lift. The palate is full-bodied, showing spiced molasses, dark plum and cocoa, with the rye influence adding a dry, peppery edge and a hint of apple skin.
The finish is long and notably dry, closer in character to a well-aged whiskey than a sweet sipping rum. Best served neat or over a single large cube of ice.
