In 1820, a year after his father died, farmer's son John Walker opened a grocery store in Kilmarnock, 30 minutes drive south of Glasgow. John successfully blended and sold local whiskies, then his son Alexander established Johnnie Walker in 1867 by launching 'Old Highland Whisky' while creating the iconic square bottle to reduce breakage on its journeys by ship around the globe. Alexander's sons, George and Alexander II launched the iconic coloured labelled whiskies in 1909. Aged in hand-selected casks, Johnnie Walker Blue Label is 40% ABV, blending the finest and rarest Scottish whiskies. Best served on ice or neat, it starts deliciously sweet with a lingering, smoky finish.
