Introduced in 1980, Lindemans Framboise is one of the flagship fruit beers from Brouwerij Lindemans, a family brewery in Belgium. It starts as a lambic brewed from local barley, unmalted wheat and wild yeast and fermented spontaneously, before generous quantities of sun-ripened raspberries are added to spark a secondary fermentation. Aged hops are used only as a preservative, so there is no hop bitterness.
It pours a deep pink with a lively sparkle and a light pink head. Intense raspberry leads the aroma, backed by hints of red fruit and a subtle lambic character. The palate is sweet and tart with fresh raspberry, followed by a gentle lambic sourness and red-fruit undertones before a crisp finish.
Serve very cold, at around 2 to 4°C. It works as an aperitif, with dessert or in cocktails, and pairs well with soft cheeses, chocolate desserts, Belgian waffles, duck and pork belly.
