Massenez Blue Curacao Liqueur 700ml
Massenez Blue Curacao Liqueur 700ml
Curaçao is a liqueur that derives its distinctive flavor from the dried peels of Larahas, a type of bitter orange indigenous to the island of Curaçao. The Laraha is not a native plant but evolved from Valencia oranges introduced by Spanish explorers. Although Valencia oranges are typically sweet, the infertile soil and arid climate of Curaçao altered the fruit's flavor, resulting in the Laraha.
The Senior family, a Jewish lineage from Curaçao, initially chanced upon and subsequently developed and marketed the drink in the 19th century. The production of the liqueur involves drying the Laraha peels to release their aromatic oils. The peels are then soaked in a blend of alcohol and water for several days, post which they are removed and other spices are introduced.
By 2002, most Curaçao liqueur was being synthetically produced in various other locations. The liqueur is characterized by an orange taste with differing degrees of bitterness, and while it is initially clear, blue, green, orange, or red coloring can be added. The commonly seen blue Curaçao is primarily utilized as a vibrant coloring agent in cocktails and other mixed beverages.
The legacy of uncompromising quality is carried forward by G.E. Massenez, who is globally recognized for his 'eaux de vie' (fruit brandies) in addition to his crème liqueurs. This reputation is further cemented by the numerous awards the company has received at international exhibitions.
