Wynns Coonawarra Estate is one of Australia's most storied wineries, its vines rooted in the famous terra rossa soils, a strip of red earth over limestone that gives Coonawarra its reputation. The V&A Lane range takes its name from the surveyed road that runs through the heart of that strip, and it revives the fresher, earlier-picked claret style of Wynns' 1950s wines, with wild fermentation and larger-format oak.
This co-fermented blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz brings both varieties together from the same picking. The nose offers black fruits and mulberry lifted by soft spice, aniseed, dried herbs and a faint minty note. The palate follows with black cherry, cassis and dark chocolate over an earthy, savoury base, while firm, chalky tannins and a sinewy freshness give it a poised, food-friendly finish.
