Glenfiddich and the Aston Martin Formula One team have run a shared project around precision and iteration, and this is the second release to come out of it. Malt master Brian Kinsman built a sixteen year old Speyside single malt from an unusually wide set of woods, taking the blending further than the first edition did.
Five cask types feed the marriage: first fill bourbon barrels, port pipes, Oloroso sherry casks, wine casks and a small proportion of Fino sherry butts. Each contributes a distinct layer, and the result is more complex than Glenfiddich's core range without losing the orchard fruit signature underneath.
The nose is rich with stewed fruit and floral top notes, marzipan and a hint of polished leather. The palate is mellow and silky, creamy buttery toffee and caramelised cane sugar meeting dry oak tannin for contrast. It finishes long, with oaky sweetness holding on. Best served neat.
